About Arbrea Labs
Arbrea Labs is an ETH spin-off from the Computer Graphics Lab at ETH Zurich. We are a team of specialists in computer graphics, computer vision, physically based simulation, and artificial intelligence, building state-of-the-art AI, AR, and 3D tools for medical aesthetics and plastic surgery.
Our software lets surgeons and aesthetic doctors capture a patient with an iPad or iPhone and, in well under two minutes, generate a digital human avatar to pre-visualize potential outcomes for breast, facial, and body procedures — improving communication, trust, and patient satisfaction. Our products, including the Arbrea Suite, Arbrea Breast, Arbrea Face, Arbrea Body, and myArbrea, are used by leading clinics worldwide, and our new Arbrea 3.0 release brings them together into one seamless ecosystem.
Backed by world-class talent from ETH Zurich and Disney Research and supported by Innosuisse and Venturelab, we are looking to expand our team with key people who have strong technical skills and a real drive to learn and get involved in a start-up environment. We consider full-time candidates as well as interns who may transition fully into the team.
About the Role
As an Applied Research Engineer with a focus on 3D Reconstruction & Deep Learning at Arbrea Labs, you will build the core computer vision engines and neural pipelines that capture, digitize, and transform real human bodies into high-fidelity 3D digital twins. Your work sits at the interface between research and production: developing advanced 3D perception models, iterative reconstruction workflows, and generative AI features that power hyper-realistic, real-time surgical and aesthetic outcome previews directly on an iPad or iPhone.
As one of the key people on the team, you will have a strong influence on the core AI and vision technology behind our entire product ecosystem. This will give you, together with the team, the opportunity to grow into world leaders in AI- and AR-driven medical aesthetics. You will work with friendly, passionate, and easy-going colleagues who are very willing to offer guidance and have a beer at regular team events. The environment is flexible, with offices in a leading technology hub, attractive salaries, and employee participation plans.
Responsibilities
Our R&D environment is agile; while you will initially deep-dive into specific projects, you will have the opportunity to expand your scope and shift between different pillars of our 3D AI stack as our technology evolves.
- Advance 3D Perception: Develop and optimize deep learning architectures for one-shot 3D reconstruction, multi-view segmentation, depth estimation, or pose tracking.
- Build Next-Gen Reconstruction Systems: Develop robust 3D reconstruction pipelines aimed at high-accuracy 3D generation and progressive shape optimization.
- Explore Generative 3D AI: Research and prototype generative models for controllable 3D generation, editing, or intelligent content inpainting.
- Improve Model Performance: Optimize scalability and inference speed across mobile and cloud platforms.
- Collaborate & Deploy: Work with software engineers and product teams to transition experimental R&D models into robust, production-ready features.
- Cultivate Technical Agility: Learn quickly and adapt across different pillars of our 3D AI stack (perception, reconstruction, and generation) as product priorities and research directions evolve.
- Contribute to Innovation: Participate in patent creation and the design of innovative product features.
Requirements
- MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or related field.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals in Python and Deep Learning frameworks (primarily PyTorch).
- Solid understanding of 3D computer vision (e.g., multi-view geometry, calibration), practical experience training deep neural networks (e.g., CNNs, Transformers, generative models), and hands-on experience handling 3D data representations (e.g., meshes, point clouds, implicit surfaces)
- Experience deploying AI models in production environments.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
- Willing to take ownership and be part of a rapidly growing venture.
Nice to Have
- Domain Experience: Background in medical imaging, healthcare AI, or digital human modeling.
- Neural Graphics & Rendering: Familiarity with neural rendering, novel view synthesis, or differentiable rendering techniques (e.g., Gaussian Splatting, NeRFs).
- Performance & On-Device Deployment: Experience optimizing models for real-time inference and deploying them in resource-constrained environments (e.g., mobile devices, edge computing, or web) using tools like CoreML, TFLite, ONNX, or TensorRT.
- Publications in top AI conferences or journals.
- Experience with MLOps and cloud infrastructure.
