Dr. Per Hedén is an internationally acclaimed plastic surgeon known for pioneering modern aesthetic and reconstructive techniques. After completing his specialization in plastic surgery, he trained in microsurgery in Australia—a groundbreaking approach that transformed reconstructive procedures. On returning to Sweden in the early 1980s, he introduced microsurgery at a national level, particularly focusing on facial paralysis repair.
In the early 1990s, Dr. Hedén co-founded Akademikliniken with Dr. Jan Jernbeck. The clinic became the largest private aesthetic surgery center in Europe, performing over 5,000 surgical and 50,000 non-surgical procedures annually. He was among the first plastic surgeons to use botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, and was instrumental in launching the first non-animal HA filler in 1996. Since then, he has served as a global expert for leading aesthetic medicine companies.
Dr. Hedén has published over 100 scientific articles, written book chapters on breast augmentation and facial rejuvenation, and authored Plastikkirugiboken, a patient guide translated into English and Russian. He is a member of the editorial boards for the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Journal and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal, and frequently lectures and demonstrates his techniques worldwide.
In 2002, he founded the international conference Beauty Through Science in Stockholm, now Northern Europe’s largest aesthetic medicine event. Since 2021, it also runs annually in New York. Dr. Hedén continues to innovate in the field, holding several patents and co-founding medical technology companies.
